Chiropractors Reflect Over Efforts at Ground Zero

When the dust cleared and the nation stood in disbelief, the chiropractic profession immediately came to the forefront and tirelessly offered services 24 hours a day to the hundreds of relief workers at "Ground Zero" in New York City.

For the first 58 days, the chiropractic community treated about 500 people per day, according to Dr. Bonnie Hillsberg, chair of the American Public Health Association. Over the next six months, doctors of chiropractic continued donating their services until the relief center closed on May 30, treating an average 125 to 150 people per 24 hours, Hillsberg said. It is estimated that chiropractors donated services equal to $1.5 million.

Chiropractors came from all over the country to offer their time and skills to provide relief to the weary workers at Ground Zero.
