Managed Care Summit Opens Dialogue
Between ACA, Networks
Arlington, Va. - For the first time in history, national chiropractic network representatives and the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) met recently in the same room to discuss common chiropractic network issues.
The American Chiropractic Association held the groundbreaking Managed Care Summit with representatives from several national chiropractic managed-care organizations (MCOs).
The main goals of the meeting were to discuss issues of concern between practitioners and MCOs, initiate an open forum on ways ACA can support practitioners while working with the networks, and to review a proposed MCO code of conduct drafted by ACA. Twenty-two attendees, representing 15 networks from across the country, stressed the challenges they face supporting their clients (HMOs, PPOs, IPAs and self-insured employers), while also balancing the needs of practitioners.
It is ACAs hope that the Managed Care Summit was just the first of many meetings to come between ACA and MCO representatives, said ACA president Dr. Daryl D. Wills. By working together and keeping the lines of communication open, we can reach our common goal of supporting both the treating practitioner and the patient.
