Foot Levelers Supports S.O.S. Chiropractic Campaign

Roanoke, Va. - Foot Levelers, Inc., has pledged $25,000 to help support the National Chiropractic Legal Action Fund (NCLAF).

The company’s donation is in response to the profession-wide “S.O.S.” (“Save Our Subluxation”) campaign, an alarm call to support legal action to defend chiropractic through the NCLAF. The NCLAF primarily funds two lawsuits, and could also be used to support future pro-chiropractic legal efforts.

The first suit seeks to protect the chiropractic profession’s continued inclusion in Medicare through the right to detect and correct subluxations. The goal is to prevent competitor providers such as doctors of osteopathy and medical doctors from falsely claiming they detect and correct subluxations (the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently handed down a mandate that physical therapists did not have this right).

The second lawsuit targets Trigon Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and seeks to end the practice of reimbursement discrimination, where insurance companies limit reimbursement or blatantly pay chiropractors less for identical services offered by other providers, such as medical doctors.

In addition to funds already pledged, Kent S. Greenawalt, president and CEO of Foot Levelers, also announced that 50% of proceeds received from the 2002 Foot Levelers “50th Anniversary Celebration Conferences” will be donated to the National Chiropractic Legal Action Fund. The other half of each registrant’s payment will be donated to the chiropractic college of his or her choice.

For information on the NCLAF, or to make donations, write to: National Chiropractic Legal Action Fund, P.O. Box 75359, Baltimore, MD 21275-5359.
