ACA Names Dr. Monte Greenawalt as 2001 ‘Humanitarian of the Year’

Arlington, Va. - The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) recently named Dr. Monte Greenawalt as the ACA’s 2001 “Humanitarian of the Year.” Greenawalt is the founder and chairman emeritus of Foot Levelers, Inc. The ACA award is presented for “exceptional service, achievement and/or leadership to the chiropractic profession for current or past accomplishments.”

Dr. Greenawalt's career has been marked by considerable achievements, including the invention of custom-made flexible foot supports and the founding of Foot Levelers, Inc., in 1952 (see related article, page 20). The Greenawalt family and Foot Levelers, who believe in giving back to the chiropractic profession, have raised more than $7 million for for chiropractic colleges, chiropractic research, and the profession as a whole. Greenawalt has also been a strong supporter of ACA’s lawsuits against the Department of Health and Human Services and Trigon Blue Cross/Blue Shield since their inception. As a result, he became ACA’s national legal action spokesperson last year.

His son, Kent Greenawalt, president and CEO of Foot Levelers, received the ACA’s “Humanitarian of the Year” award in 1991.
