URAC grants ASH full reaccreditation

August 20, 2008 — American Specialty Health Incorporated (ASH), announced that it has once again been awarded full accreditation for its Health Plan, Health Network with Credentialing, Health Utilization Management, and Claims Processing programs from URAC, a Washington, DC-based healthcare accrediting organization.

The reaccreditation includes ASH's chiropractic, acupuncture, massage therapy, naturopathy, and dietetic counseling programs. URAC's Health Plan and Health Network accreditation standards include key quality benchmarks for network management,

provider credentialing, utilization management, quality management, and improvement and consumer protection.

The aim of the Health Utilization Management (UM) standards is to ensure that organizations conducting utilization review follow a process that is clinically sound and respects patients' and providers' rights while giving payors reasonable guidelines to follow. The Claims Processing accreditation process validates that standards are met in areas such as accuracy, timeliness, notification to claimants, and quality monitoring.
