Technology Buzzwords - Tech terms your need to know: PDA

The sixth installment in a continuing series highlighting the latest technology terms from software to the Web. The series is designed to give you a starting point to implement the latest chiropractic software technology in your practice.

PDA – a personal digital assistant is a small, hand-held computer that provides many of the functions of a standard laptop or desktop, including e-mail, calendar, contact database, and word processing. There are several models of PDAs, each with its own unique functions and features. When they initially gained popularity, one of the major advances was the touch screen, allowing users to take their information

with them and leave their mouse and keyboard at home.
As touch screens have become more popular in the medical profession (such as tablet PCs) and for personal use, PDAs have become more multifaceted but are generally not considered the best way to manage a practice. While they have wireless capabilities and may provide you easy access to your e-mail and calendar, many don’t have the memory space or the software compatibility to maintain the records of a busy practice.
