Instrument adjusting leader celebrates 10 year anniversary with record growth
PHOENIX, February 3, 2011 -- Chandler, Arizona based medical device manufacturer of the Impulse® family of adjusting instruments, Neuromechanical Innovations® (NMI), celebrated its 10 year anniversary last year. The company reported 14.8% growth in 2010 adding to its ten year exponential growth as the World’s number one provider of chiropractic adjusting instruments. Chiropractor, Dr. Chris Colloca founded NMI in 2000 to improve instrument adjusting technology and to create an evidence-based clinical approach to chiropractic technique within the profession.
Solving a Need
Dr. Colloca, NMI’s CEO and Founder, reflected on the journey. “It was all about solving a need,” he said when asked why he began NMI. “Initially, I saw the need to provide chiropractors with three major improvements – 1) an adjusting device that didn’t hurt chiropractor’s hands, 2) improved adjusting performance from new technology innovation from what we learned from research, and 3) an evidence-based analysis in the technique application,” stated Colloca. Born out of these tenets were the Impulse Adjusting Instrument® and Impulse Adjusting Technique®. Ten years later, Impulse Adjusting Technique is one of the profession’s fastest growing chiropractic techniques and the Impulse family of adjusting instruments are in use in over 6,000 offices in every US state, all Canadian provinces, and in 46 countries around the world.
Made in the USA
Neuromechanical Innovations prides itself on the fact that its products are made in the USA. In 2010, NMI was responsible for the creation of five new jobs to fill newly created positions consistent with the company’s success. “It would be easy to have our product made in China, like the spring-loaded activation devices
that are on the market, but taking the easy road isn’t always the best road. We’ve implemented a Quality Management System in our own manufacturing facility that guarantees the quality of our products and secures our ability to offer a 3-year warranty on our products, one of the longest in the industry, stated Colloca.” NMI has seventeen employees on staff in its 12,000 sq. ft. corporate headquarters in the Arizona desert what has become to be known as the 2nd Silicon Valley.
The Impulse Adjusting Instrument®, Neuromechanical’s first release, received its US FDA 510(k) registration in 2003 and its first domestic patent in 2006. Numerous domestic and international patents are pending. Dr. Colloca credits the unprecedented adoption of Impulse® to its unique benefits. “Impulse doesn’t hurt chiropractors’ hands and wrists like the old fashioned adjusting instruments that you had to squeeze to get to work. We improved the waveform of the thrust to emulate a half-sine wave that is twice as fast as the competition, and expanded the range of forces that the clinician could select from, in addition to adding single and multiple thrust capabilities for the user. In all, it’s everything a chiropractor could ask for at that price point.” In 2008, the company released a new chiropractic adjusting device, Impulse iQ®, that is equipped with a computerized sensor to detect spinal motion responses during chiropractic treatments while gauging its performance to the body’s response. Over 20 research publications have been published on the scientific background behind the inventions.
“Our company’s growth in a challenging economy is testimony to the quality of our products and the quality of our people. We couldn’t be more blessed,” said Colloca.
