N.M. bill to permit chiropractors to practice medicine

February 7, 2011 — Bill HB127, introduced Jan 20, 2011, has been proposed in the state of New Mexico.

If passed, this bill will authorize "certified advanced practice chiropractic physician to prescribe and administer any dangerous drug or controlled substances subject to approval by the chiropractic board and within the physician's

I am glad this bill was shot down. Chiropractors are not practitioners of general medicine. Their approach to treatment is unique and should they fail to maintain that distinction then they will lose their essence and become another MD or DO. The DOs have already lost the majority of their distinction, being hardly any different than MDs, and that was after many years of Integration before they became equals (by adopting medicine for the core value). Chiros aren't trained to use medicine

This is a sad loss.!!!We have learned from the past. DC's in 2011 practice the same as in 1911. No other profession prevents members from advancing. We can not do what we have done in the past for our future. DPT's adjust already, I've seen it. Lets not kid ourselves into thinking the only thing we offer is manual tx. We are smarter than that.

I am all for increasing knowledge and scope. With increased scope a chiropractic physician can educate their patients about medications and actually increase and better yet decrease their medication/s. I know straights will not like this however the smart straights will understand. It will also ope up more jobs for chiropractors with better pay. I think it is time that we allow each other to learn more if you want and practice the way we would like and not hold one another back.
