The $44,000 question: industry insider responses (Claude Cote)
This is in reference to Melissa Heyboer’s article, “The $44,000 question,” which appeared in Issue 13, 2010. The following is Claude Cote’s responses in their entirety.
A: For 22 years, Platinum System has been providing management software for chiropractic practices,” says Cote. “In 1989 Chiro-Logic was one of the first software technology to help make the chiropractic front desk more efficient. Today our Patient Health Card digitally streamlines all aspects of patient care and doctor documentation. So naturally we will be prepared to meet all the requirements of the final rules issued by the CMS. The new rules required doctors to meet 20 out of 25 meaningful use objectives and many of these objectives relate to medication which is out of the scope of chiropractic. It seems that it will be very difficult, if not impossible, to meet the actual requirements. Another concern we have, and it should be the DCs’ concern, is that no software solution should involve DCs having to purchase multiple costly software applications, some of which might prove to not integrate well with one another, just in hopes of obtaining $44,000.
“My educated guess is that all software providers must go about this cautiously because mistakes will be costly to the DCs and the providers. Remember you can indentify the pioneers by the arrows in their back.”
