They must have read my book
By Dr. A. W. Martin | December 4, 2008
There is a new study showing the importance of proper body pH. What the study is saying that every time you eat fruits and vegetables you are making your body more alkaline. The fruits and veggies release a carbonate that alkalizes body fluids. Of course the alkaline body which is much less toxic, holds on to and absorbs calcium thus really helping in advancing bone health.I have had countless number of patients suffering from major osteoarthritis that have been able to come off dangerous anti- inflammatories by simply changing their ph from acidic(below 7.0) to alkaline (7.0-7.5). So folks two things 1) read my book Medical Crisis 2)eat your fruits and veggies.

The bark with the bite
By Dr. A. W. Martin | November 6, 2008
Again, another study about the effectiveness of pine bark extract. This one touts pine barks ability to fight jet lag. In my book” Pycnogenol The Bark With The Bite”, i gave anecdotal evidence of pilots who worked for air canada that suffered much less jet lag after trans Atlantic or Pacific flights. You see pine bark readily crosses the blood brain barrier bringing extra oxygen to the brain. I first discovered this when working with patients who had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. These patients really suffer with brain fog and short term memory loss and using Pine Bark extract really helped.

Don’t touch them with hundred foot pole
By Dr. A. W. Martin | October 17, 2008
A new study saying that taking non-steroidal anti-Inflammatories (NSAIDs) may reduce your risk of getting breast cancer. What the study will not tell you is that people who take NSAIDs have far more serious consequences to worry about. Their gastrointestinal death rate is higher than the death rates of cervical cancer , malignant melanoma, and asthma. 16,000 patients in USA die every year from taking NSAIDs and 100,000 end up in the hospital. So for Pete’s sake why would anybody want to risk taking NSAIDs for prevention when there are safe alternatives like Omega 3and Pine Bark extract

The flu shot - not exactly good science!
By Dr. A. W. Martin | October 7, 2008
The so called experts are saying that this year’s flu shot should be a good match. Now last year’s vaccine was only 44% effective. Now i dont know about you but with this type of hit and miss science i think there must be a better way of protecting oneself from the flu bug. Here is my recommendation
1)take 2-4000 i u of vitamin d 3 on a daily basis
2)take a broad spectrum probiotic for at least 30 days
3)keep oil of oregeno handy and at the first sign of cold or flu spray or use drops under tongue or at back of throat

Vitamin C -Medicine’s dilemma
By Dr. A. W. Martin | October 2, 2008
I am very interested how traditional medicine will spin this study on vitamin c that shows it protects cancer cells during chemotherapy. Now most oncologists will no doubt boast about the idea that this proves vit c actually counter acts traditional cancer treatment. However a close look at this study reveals that antioxidants like vitamin c are so powerful that they protect cells from free radical damage especially at the mitochondria level(the cells battery pack). You see, by admitting that vit c protects cells whether they are cancerous or not might force medicine to admit that antioxidants ought to be an important part of cancer prevention.

Pregnant– you need Omega 3
By Dr. A. W. Martin | September 22, 2008
Once again there is a new study talking about the benefits of Omega 3’s. This study is different in that it touts the benefits of eating fish for pregnancy. Not only does mom benefit, but baby as well. Mothers who take a fish supplement or consume fish at least 2x a week during pregnancy are much less susceptible to post postpartum depression, mood swings and they recover from having a baby much quicker. The baby on the other hand, gets the benefits of better brain development and improvement to eye sight. So ladies eat your fish, especially salmon. I would avoid tuna during pregnancy due to possible mercury contamination. To be on the safe side take 3to 5 grams daily of omega3 supplement of fish oil or Hemp seed oil.

The Mediterranean diet
By Dr. A. W. Martin | September 12, 2008
Again a new study confirming the benefits of eating the Mediterranean way. The study concludes that this way of eating reduces the risk of getting cancer and cardio vascular disease. The Mediterranean diet promotes foods like fish, whole grains, fruits and veggies and olive oil. It also discourages the eating of red meat and drinking of alcohol. So why is the diet so good for you? It is due to the fact it is high on antioxidants, fiber and good fats. This type of eating touches all bio markers that i talk about in my book Medical Crisis. The Mediterranean diet lowers inflammation (silent killer)reduces free radicals and really helps your body fluids become more alkaline. No wonder it is so good for you.

Just a theory
By Dr. A. W. Martin | September 10, 2008
Story out of Britain today showing that children attending day care are less likekely to develop asthma.Headlines last week that the most dangerous place to be in was in a hospital. So here is my theory, the more you are exposed to germs the better your immune system works- thus the results of children in daycare. In hospitals they try and keep them super clean—and it is the most dangerous place to be.In my book ‘Medical Crisis” i address this issue mentioning that we live overzealous world bent on destroying all germs. TV advertising for cleaning products tell us that their product kill 99% of all germs. The problem is that when you kill all germs you are also killing good germs that are on our side .I am not saying that doctors or nurses should not wash their hands but they should use old fashion soap and water and not antibacterial soaps that are full of chemicals. Folks as you can see i am not a big proponent of the germ theory .

Ask your doctor if this test is right for me
By Dr. A. W. Martin | September 9, 2008
I go crazy every time i hear a big pharma commercial that ends with “ask your doctor if this drug is right for me”?You should not have to ask your doctor , they should be telling you what drug you need. However there is a test that you should ask your doctor to perform. It is a simple bood test called CRP(c-reactive protein)Doctors should be doing this test regularly but if you dont ask you wont get. CRP determines your body’s inflammatory status. Undetetected inflammation is associated with 30% of all cancers and 100% of all cardio vascular disease incuding diabetes. In my book Medical crisis i make the case for inflammation being much more dangerous than cholesterol.By the way 50% of all heart attack victims have normal cholesterol readings

Eat it don’t smoke it
By Dr. A. W. Martin | September 8, 2008
One of the most powerful Omega 3 is hemp seed oil(that’s right from the marijuana plant). Very few people understand the true benefits of Omega 3.Essential fatty acids cannot be produced in the body therefore they need to be obtained from our diets. The problem with the North American diet is that we get way too much Omega 6 and too little Omega 3. The ratio should be 3 to 1 but it is currently 10 to 1 omega 6 versus Omega 3.Good sources of Omega 3 are fish(especially cold water fish)flax and hemp. I recommend 5 grams of Omega 3 a day. The benefits include a marvellous complexion, healthy hair and nails. However even more important is the cardiovascular benefits including lower cholesterol levels, and reduced inflammation.Hemp seed oil will give you an added benefit of chlorophyll which will help alkalize your body fluids. An akaline body is ideal for reducing your risk of cancer and premature aging
