Home rehab made easy

Home rehab is quickly gaining popularity — for good reason. Patients can now take an active role in their recovery and maintenance. Home rehab saves patients time and money and enables them to continue care on their own, with periodic checkups by their DC.

To continue the rehab process at home, patients may need an exercise ball, exercise kit, exercise bands, balance board, hand/wrist exercisers, a cervical curve restoration device, and a DVD instruction video — all of which you can provide to them.

Instruct your patients in home rehab protocols to:

• Perform each rehab exercise a number of times daily;

• Include 10 bilateral repetitions each time the exercise is done; and

• Perform each repetition slowly and deliberately; the exercises should not cause pain.

If pain occurs, then the rehab is being performed incorrectly, is being done too soon, or over-exercising is occurring.

Have the patient report these occurrences to you on the next visit.
