Where can you submit?
Where you submit your news release depends largely upon the size of your community and its metro newspaper.
• Weekly or small daily newspapers. If you live in a small community that has a daily, semi-weekly, or weekly newspaper, submit the news release directly to
the editor.
• Mid-sized city newspapers. Send your news release to the editor of the appropriate section. For example: If you have a pediatrics or family practice, send it to the lifestyle editor. If you have a sports practice, send it to the sports editor.
• Large metro papers. You will have a very small chance of getting a press release published in a major metropolitan newspaper such as the Chicago Tribune. But, metro papers often publish a weekly community newspaper distributed in the suburbs, and editors welcome submissions from locals.
Metro newspapers usually have a business section, which may publish a weekly feature about "notables" — individuals in the business community who have changed jobs, received promotions, or achieved other milestones. Submit announcements, such as "John Doe, DC, achieves diplomate" to business editors.
