Colleges offer major events for CE opportunities

Keeping up to date is very important in an ever-changing world — and your education is no exception. Continuing your education not only enhances your life, but the life of your patients.

Annual chiropractic college events center on learning and the opportunity to earn continuing education credits for license renewal. Guest speakers, class reunions, vendor expos, and social activities are also present at these events for chiropractic professionals, students, and their families. CLEVELAND CHIROPRACTIC COLLEGE
Cleveland Conferences, sponsored by Cleveland Chiropractic College, offers attendees a variety of courses for re-licensure requirements and the opportunity to learn practice-building strategies. It’s also a way for Cleveland alumni, students, faculty, and staff to gather for a variety of social activities.

“Promoting the Principle, Practice & Passion of Chiropractic,” the next Cleveland Conference, the Kansas City Expo 2006, is Image Logo Cleveland Chiropractic Collegescheduled for Oct. 5-8, 2006, at the Clarion Hotel Sports Complex in Kansas City, Mo. The event will provide the chance to learn, grow, and network with other chiropractors with an expo of vendors, continuing education credits, and several seminars with various guest speakers.

The college, located in Kansas City, Mo., also offers more than 100 post-graduate-level seminars throughout the year.

D’YOUVILLE COLLEGE
More than 120 doctors attended the D’Youville College’s major continuing education program on March 16, 2006, which featured guest speaker Malik Slosberg, DC. This program was offered in conjunction with the New York Chiropractic Association district 17.

LIFE CHIROPRACTIC COLLEGE WEST
“Live Life, Love Life, Celebrate Life!” was the theme of Life Chiropractic College West’s Spring for Life celebration, scheduled for May 11, 2006, on its campus in Hayward, Calif. This morning of inspirational guest speakers, followed by the Student Council picnic, is usually held on the second Thursday of May and is designed for alumni, chiropractors, students, faculty, and staff.

SPA Day, a full day of celebrating the Science, Philosophy, and Art of chiropractic, kicks of Festival 2006 activities on Oct. 19. Festival 2006 is three days of guest speakers, continuing education units, social events, and more on the LCCW campus in Hayward, Calif.

LIFE UNIVERSITY
“20/20 Vision” is Life University’s Homecoming theme to be held in Marietta, Ga., on the Life University Campus, July 27-30, 2006.

The four-day event features the students versus faculty basketball game, the state of the university address by Guy Riekeman, DC, president of Life, and a 20/20 Vision international celebration — all providing the opportunity to reconnect with friends and find out more about things happening at Life.

Sixty-one continuing education hours will be offered, and each attendee can earn up to 21 cont-inuing education credits. Course topics include pediatrics from A-Z, anti-aging, extremity adjusting, spinal analysis, X-ray, risk management, Georgia law, and Florida law.

LOGAN COLLEGE OF CHIROPRACTIC
Logan College of Chiropractic’s Alumni Homecoming and Class Reunions will be June 8-11, 2006, at the St. Louis Airport Marriott Hotel. This year’s event, themed “Logan Alumni — Preserving Our Heritage, Expanding Our Future,” will feature 15 guest speakers, the student/alumni golf tournament, a Thursday evening super event, exhibits, class reunions for years ending in 1 and 6, state of the college address luncheon, a Saturday evening dinner/dance, an auxiliary silent auction, and 26 hours of continuing education opportunities covering topics such as neurology, whiplash, patient management, patient education, and carpal tunnel syndrome.

NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES
National University of Health Sciences (NUHS) will celebrate its historic centennial anniversary during Homecoming 2006, June 22-24, at the Oakbrook Hills Marriott Resort in Oak Brook, Illinois. This event celebrates John Fitz Alan Howard’s founding of the National School of Chiropractic in 1906, and the Image Logo National University of Health Sciencesinstitution’s following 100 years of leadership in education, healthcare, and research. The American Chiropractic Association, also celebrating its centennial this year, will join a full range of exhibitors.

Scheduled events include a reunion celebration, golf outing, a gala centennial banquet, and an alumni association luncheon. Up to 18 possible hours of continuing education credits (credits have been applied for), and a special discount on NCMIC malpractice insurance renewal by attending designated sessions are available.

NEW YORK CHIROPRACTIC COLLEGE
“A Symposium on Evidence-Based Healthcare in Contemporary Chiropractic Practice” was hosted by the New York Chiropractic College, the New York State Chiropractic Association, and the New York Chiropractic Council on April 29–30, 2006, at the Crowne Plaza New York-LaGuardia Hotel.

“Presented in the Spirit of Unity,” the symposium offered 14 CE credits and ran on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., followed by a cocktail party from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Symposium topics covered included cervicogenic vertigo, headaches, ethics, Medicare, pediatrics, and more.

NORTHWESTERN HEALTH SCIENCES UNIVERSITY
More than 1,100 graduates of Northwestern College of Chiropractic converged on the campus of Northwestern Health Sciences University Feb. 2–4, 2006, for one of the nation’s Image Logo Northwestern Health Sciences universitylargest chiropractic homecoming. The event attracted more than 1,300 people, including doctors, chiropractic assistants, students, and more than 100 vendors.

The winter gathering, entitled “Current Concepts in Chiropractic Practice,” covered topics such as ethics, pediatrics, science and chiropractic, biomechanics, and nutritional medicine. Homecoming included 20-plus hours of continuing education, professional seminars with credits toward relicensure, a number of speakers, social activities, a reunion reception with more than 100 graduates attending, and an expo.

PALMER COLLEGE OF CHIROPRACTIC
All three campuses of Palmer College host their own homecoming celebrations, each with continuing education Image Logo Palmer Homecomingopportunities, an exhibit area, a prospective student program, and several social activities for alumni, students, faculty, and staff to enjoy. PARKER COLLEGE OF CHIROPRACTIC
Parker College of Chiropractic is not having a Homecoming event in 2006 since it is preparing for its college’s 25th Image Logo Parker College of Chiropracticanniversary and its Parker Seminars 55th anniversary in 2007. Parker “kicks off” the anniversary celebration at the Parker Seminar in Las Vegas, February 7-9, 2007, at the Las Vegas Hilton, and continues it in Dallas, March 29-31, 2007, where Homecoming and the Dallas Parker Seminar will combine for one big event. The events will feature celebrities and well-known speakers from the profession, as well as seminars, continuing education credits, expos, and one of the largest CA programs available.

Parker will, however, hold a summer relicensure event July 14-16, 2006, with the opportunity to earn up to 16 hours of CE credit. Parker also offers over 300 continuing education seminars per year on topics varying from animal chiropractic, chiropractic business academy, sports injury, nutrition, rehab, orthopedics, and adjustment protocols.

SHERMAN COLLEGE OF STRAIGHT CHIROPRACTIC
Sherman College’s Lyceum 2006, entitled “Straight to the Top,” will take place on the college’s Spartanburg, S.C., campus on May 25-28. Each year, Lyceum attracts nearly 1,000 attendees Image Sherman College of Straight Chiropracticfrom around the world for alumni events, continuing education seminars, and motivational talks. Other events include the fireworks show, the Saturday night banquet, and children’s activities all under the Big Top.

This year, Lyceum offers seminars in the area of chiropractic technique, philosophy, principles of practice, basic science, x-ray and risk management, and doctors can earn up to 24 hours of continuing education credit.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES
Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, part of Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCUHS), does not have a single homecoming event. However, SCUHS annually honors alumni who graduated at least 40 years ago at its Legacy Luncheon.

The Postgraduate Division offers a series of seminars throughout the state of California and in Arizona and Nevada. Each seminar meets license renewal requirements while presenting the most contemporary trends in clinical care. Programs are also available for presentation in other states in conjunction with state chiropractic associations, or as stand-alone seminars.

Long- and short-term courses in specialty areas such as sports medicine, rehabilitation, massage therapy, and chiropractic assistants lead to professional certification, diplomate status, or eligibility to sit for board examinations. Advanced courses in specialty areas

relating to acupuncture/oriental medicine and chiropractic are also available.

TEXAS CHIROPRACTIC COLLEGE
Texas Chiropractic College Homecoming Convention and License Renewal, themed “Beach Party,” will be July 19-22, 2006, at the Moody Gardens Hotel in Galveston, Texas. “Beach Party” events include a reception, golf tournament, beach party, class reunions, the president’s banquet, speakers, an expo, and 24 hours of continuing education credits.

UNIVERSITY OF BRIDGEPORT COLLEGE OF CHIROPRACTIC
The University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic in Bridgeport, Conn., does not offer a single premier event, but offers seminars throughout the year in many locations, as well Image Logo University of Bridgeportas an online program with more than 80 course offerings. UBCC’s new tele-seminar series incorporates the advantages of a live, interactive experience with the ease of sitting at your office desk at lunchtime.

Many states accept UBCC’s Internet courses and tele-seminars for re-licensure continuing education credit. UBCC offers over 87 different modules for chiropractors to fulfill their continuing education requirements.

WESTERN STATES CHIROPRACTIC COLLEGE
The Seventh Annual Northwest Chiropractic Symposium will be held June 2–4, 2006, in Portland, Ore. This 20-hour, continuing education program will feature guest speakers as well as faculty speakers, an expo, and a Saturday evening get-together.

In addition, Western States Chiropractic College’s Continuing Education and Postgraduate Studies Division offers chiropractic relicensure, diplomate, and certificate seminars at many locations across the United States and Canada. WSCC also co-sponsors a series of online continuing education courses.
