Flowcharting with software

You may find that sketching out a flowchart in longhand is fast and easy. But to create a polished flowchart, you may want to use the flowchart drawing tools in Microsoft Word.

To do this:

  1. Go to “view” and turn on the drawing toolbar.
  2. Click on “autoshapes.”
  3. Pull down the menu and select the flowchart shape.
  4. Widen the drawing area to a full page.
  5. Right click to add text.
  6. Select the appropriate autoshape for the step in the process you wish to depict.
  7. Click on lines or arrows and insert them to connect steps in the process.
