To select a guardian
Choosing a guardian, who would raise your minor children in the event of your death, is serious and should not be done lightly. In assessing potential guardians, ask yourself questions such as these:
- Is this person financially, emotionally, and physically able to serve as guardian?
- Does this person have a positive existing relationship with your children?
- Would this person raise your children with values similar to your own?
- Does this person have other children? Would your children fit into the family?
- Does this person work full-time? Who would tend to the children when this person works?
