Meet daily — for a short time

Touch base with your team every day. One way to do this is with pre-shift and post-shift huddles.

A pre-shift huddle is the time when the team reviews all tasks and goals for the shift. Each person glances at the appointment book and reviews the patients to be served that shift. During this time, focus the team or individuals on their major objectives of the day, such as “Smile and hold great eye contact for each patient today!”

Post-shift huddles occur at the day’s end. Team members report what was completed during that shift. This is a great opportunity for you to acknowledge accomplishments and reward positive behaviors. It is also an opportunity to address problems and challenges in the moment, instead of leaving them to build up for the next week’s team meeting.
