Common sense creates success

Success doesn’t come by way of a bolt of genius, says Rottinghaus. Rather, it is built on common sense. He admits, however, that in his case, common sense did take awhile to manifest itself.

Rottinghaus believes his success can be attributed to relationship building, forward thinking, creating a niche in the market place, and asking for expert help.

• Relationship building. “One big key to my success in chiropractic has been the relationships I have built with the professionals, medical doctors, and other doctors,” he said.

• Forward thinking. “Having a wife who is a progressive thinker has helped,” he says.

• Creating a niche. You don’t have to be completely unique, but offering something others in a geographic area don’t enhances the chance to stand out in a community.

• Expert help. Finally, Rottinghaus recommends not trying to reinvent the wheel, particularly if you’re not an inventor. If you want something done outside the realm of chiropractic and its related disciplines, get someone from outside to help with it.

“Concentrate on helping people instead of the bottom dollar,” Rottinghaus says. “Remember: You studied chiropractic, not business, advertising, Web development, accounting, law, or something else. When something requires an expert, hire an expert, so you can spend your time on attracting, treating, and retaining patients.”
