From a sow’s ear, a silk purse
An old adage says that you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. Well, maybe you can.
During the last several weeks, news stories, e-mails and Web logs (blogs) have been circulating concerning the class action suit filed against The Masters Circle, an esteemed, chiropractic practice-management firm.
This lawsuit alleges a conspiracy. Filed on behalf of a mother and her teenaged son and others who have had extensive chiropractic treatment by members of The Masters Circle, the suit claims that this practice-management group has conspired with its members to mislead people into paying for unnecessary chiropractic treatments.
This is a “false, malicious and frivolous claim against us and the chiropractic profession,” according to Dr. Larry Markson, co-founder of The Masters Circle.
We agree. The Masters Circle has provided consultative services to chiropractors throughout the country for more than 25 years. It has a reputation for teaching professional ethics and honesty. It advises members to tell patients up front what they can reasonably expect from treatment.
The honesty and genuineness within The Masters Circle is real. When a group of members come together (as they do for regional meetings and the annual SuperConference), the air is filled with an unsurpassed energy and enthusiasm for chiropractic and a genuine servant attitude for patients.
When 9-11 happened, nations put aside their differences and rallied around the United States. And when the tsunami hit the South Pacific, people throughout the world sent their support and relief.
We don’t mean to imply that this lawsuit is a 9-11 or a tsunami. Obviously, it is not. But if this lawsuit gains momentum (as the plaintiff’s attorneys would hope), it damages the reputation of every chiropractor who has only the health of his or her patients at heart.
Dr. Markson’s comment is correct: The lawsuit is a frivolous claim against the chiropractic profession. The Masters Circle is determined to fight the lawsuit to bring it to its rightful end.
Practice-management firms such as The Masters Circle have given countless chiropractors excellent training in business management so that they can be in a position to help their patients.
Whether you are a member of The Masters Circle or another practice-management organization or practice without a management firm’s guidance, rally ’round the flag and show The Masters Circle support. Send an e-mail of encouragement to mvp@themasterscircle.com.
Your moral support will make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.
Until next time,
Linda Segall
