SOS: A unifying call

Although the American Chiropractic Association is the organization that has filed the lawsuits, these lawsuits have been supported, officially and unofficially, on virtually all sides of chiropractic.

Ron Hendrickson, executive director of the International Chiropractic Association, at the Parker Seminars in Las Vegas, said, “I’ve watched chiropractic grow to ‘young adulthood.’ The battle is a global one. We understand we must express chiropractic in more emphatic terms.”

Dr. Terry Rondberg of the World Chiropractic Alliance stated, “Our International Board of Governors will be discussing [the cases] at this year’s annual meeting in May.” He cautions, “We need to guard against the lawsuits themselves becoming a financial drain on the profession.”

And Dr. Richard Plummer, chairman of the Federation of Straight Chiropractors and Organizations, said, “The FSCO in 2001 issued a statement supporting in principle and spirit the basis for these lawsuits, regarding the appropriateness of only chiropractors having the right to adjust vertebral subluxations. If these cases are won and chiropractors are given exclusive rights to provide chiropractic care to correct vertebral subluxations and be reimbursed … the financial impact would be significant.”
