Chiropractic centennial celebrated
Dr. William Holmberg, president of the CCF

1995 — The chiropractic profession celebrated its centennial with various festivities held around the world.

Copenhagen hosted the Interscandinavian Chiropractic Centennial meeting which drew participants from Britain, Canada, Denmark, France, Norway, Sweden, the United States and elsewhere.

The Canadian Chiropractic Association held a gala convention in Toronto.

In the United States the Chiropractic Centennial Foundation (CCF) hosted two celebrations: the first in the summer of 1995 in Washington, DC and the second in September in Davenport, Iowa. More than 5,000 participants from at least 16 nations converged on the Iowa river city for the grand finale.

The CCF, in conjunction with the Association for the History of Chiropractic (AHC), invited special presentations on early chiropractic pioneers by Pierre-Louis Gaucher-Peslherbe, DC, PhD, W. Heath Quigley, DC, MA, and Virgil V. Strang, DC; their papers were subsequently published in a special issue of the AHC’s journal, Chiropractic History.

ACA’s president, Kurt Hegetschveiller, DC, joins ICA’s past president, Fred H. Barge, DC, PhC, in Davenport, during dedication of a plaque commemorating the first chiropractic adjustment.
