blockades the Israeli port of Elat. Israel attacks
Egypt, Syria and Jordan, occupying the Gaza Strip,

Six-Day Israeli-Arab War. The United Nations obtains
a cease-fire on all fronts.
- Broadway
musicals include You’re a Good Man Charlie
Brown and Hair, the first show to
emphasize rock music.
- Christiaan
Barnard, a South African surgeon, performs the first
human heart transplant.
- Gordon
Murray, a Canadian surgeon, claims the he successfully
repaired a severed spinal cord.
- Albert
de Salvo, the “Boston Strangler”, who
admits to 13 murders is sentenced to life in prison.
- Mickey
Mantle of the New York Yankees hits his 500th career
home run.
