Jewel heist

Thieves steal jewels from the collection of rare stones in the Museum of Natural History, New York City. The jewels, worth over $410,000, include the world’s largest sapphire, the 565-carat Star of India. Also that year:

_ Jimmy Hoffa, president of the Teamsters Union, is convicted of fraud in the misuse of union funds and of jury tampering. He begins a 13-year prison term in 1967 and retains the presidency of the Teamsters until 1971 when he resigns.

_ Broadway musicals for the year include Hello Dolly starring Carol Channing,Fiddler on the Roof starring Zero Mostel and Funny Girl starring Barbara Streisand.
