‘World-Wide Reports’ launched

1959 — Paul Smallie, DC, introduces a regular column, “World-Wide Reports,” in the Digest of Chiropractic Economics.

Dr. Paul Smallie, circa 1965

Smallie, a 1935 graduate of the Ratledge Chiropractic College of Los Angeles (today’s Cleveland Chiropractic College of Los Angeles), later transformed the column into a monthly newsletter that he edited and published for many years. Smallie and Digest founder William Luckey were close friends who had collaborated in the formation of the Chiropractic Editors’ Guild in August 1950.

Smallie served as editor of the California Chiropractic Association Journal during the 1960s, and earned a reputation for his many efforts to encourage unity within the profession. He practiced for many years with his son, Palmer graduate Don D. Smallie, DC, in Stockton, Calif. He was honored in 1992 at the annual Conference on Chiropractic History when the Association for the History of Chiropractic conferred its Lee-Homewood Chiropractic Heritage Award for a lifetime of contributions to the profession. Dr. Paul passed away at age 86 on 29 March 2000.
