Female Sexuality Manual

1953 — Alfred Charles Kinsey publishes the controversial Sexual Behavior in the Human Female. Also that year:

  • Transistorized hearing aids are introduced;
  • Fashion designers become interested in men’s clothes. Bermuda shorts for the businessman are promoted and worn during the summer months;
  • Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay of Nepal are the first to climb 29,028-foot Mount Everest;
  • Charles S. Draper, an aeronautical engineer, develops a highly accurate inertial guidance system for airplanes. Modified versions are later used in ships and spacecraft.
