1953 — Alfred Charles Kinsey publishes the
controversial Sexual Behavior in the Human Female.
Also that year:
- Transistorized hearing aids are introduced;
- Fashion designers become interested in men’s
clothes. Bermuda shorts for the businessman are
promoted and worn during the summer months;
- Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay
of Nepal are the first to climb 29,028-foot Mount
Everest;
- Charles S. Draper, an aeronautical engineer,
develops a highly accurate inertial guidance system
for airplanes. Modified versions are later used
in ships and spacecraft.
