1941 — Japanese naval and air forces make
a surprise attack on the U.S. naval base at Pearl
Harbor, Hawaii on December 7. Eighteen warships are
sunk or damaged, about 170 planes are destroyed and
about 2,000 Americans are killed. The United States
declares war on Japan.
Also that year:
- First criteria for chiropractic school accreditation
established by NCA Director of Education John Nugent,
DC; 12 schools are accredited in 1941.
- Northwestern College of Chiropractic is founded
in the State of Minnesota. 6/2/
- Palmer graduate C.O. Watkins (class of May 1925)
tries to create a legitimate scientific periodical
for the profession in December 1941 with the seminal
issue of his American Chiropractic Journal.
- After Germany and Italy declare war on the United
States, Congress passes a resolution recognizing
a state of war with these nations.
- The National Nutrition Program begins; vitamins
and minerals are added to milk, bread and other
common foods.
- Gasoline curfews begin in 17 eastern states.
Gasoline stations are closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
