1922 — The tomb of Tutankhamen (“King
Tut”) is discovered in Egypt. It yields some
of the world’s greatest art treasures. In addition,
Britain ends its protectorate over Egypt, which is
declared independent under King Fuad I.

is founded in Missouri.
- Philo T. Farnsworth, a 15-year-old Idaho schoolchild,
designs an image dissector system that is later
developed into television.
- Oklahoma is placed under martial law to control
violence and curb Ku Klux Klan activities.
- The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics is formed,
consisting of the Russian Socialist Federal Soviet
Republic, the Ukraine, Belorussia and Transcaucasia.
- German currency, the mark, begins to collapse
because of heavy reparation payments.
- Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi is arrested and sentenced
to six years imprisonment for civil disobedience.
