Chiropractic gets a name

1896 — Rev. Samuel H. Weed, a patient and friend of D. D., names chiropractic from the Greek words cheir (hand) and praktos (done).

A veteran of the Civil War, Reverend Weed had suffered some health problems. He had been treated by Palmer for two years when Palmer told Weed he had developed a new method of treatment. Weed, who had studied Hebrew and Greek and was something of a linguist, suggested a few different names. Palmer chose chiropractic.
